Jeff : Director of Education The Story of My Life, Part 1

The Story of My Life, Part 1

Posted on Apr 9th, 2007 by Jeff : Director of Education Jeff

BEFORE THE BEGINNING

I was born in the sixties, but I grew up in the fifties. Somehow all of the counter culture excitement that swept through the United States during the sixties and early seventies – a movement that I should have been too young to participate in, but old enough to be influenced by – seemed to move straight past the small town in Rhode Island that was my port of entry to this life. Like a tornado that destroys a neighborhood but leaves one house untouched, I seemed to miss the whole event until long after it was over.

When it came time for me to choose a major for college I wanted to study fine art and found myself under subtle but heavy pressure to reconsider my options. Architecture was a much more acceptable way to allow my artistic side to expresses itself. In the end I decided to major in…engineering (I didn’t hold up well under pressure.)

After a year as an engineering student I realized that if I didn’t get out of there, that was where I was going to end up. The only class I really liked freshman year (and one of the few I passed) was physics. So I became a physics major.

Daer Jeff

Through 'our' new website The Univers Project I now read you Life Story and I must say: your opening lines alone are fit for a novel - not to mention the rest of your story.
Apart from your abillity to penetrate deep into events, it's really so well told.
You made me aware of the fact that although I am from 1947 that for most of my life - until some 12 years ago - I lived subconsciously in an era still to come: the  AnthropoKosmic existence.
From my early years onwards I have been in this anti-society/world mode (and mood), finding the earth a nearly impossible place to live in - not being able to express my authentic self as I always knew it to be.
Until I undertsood that I could move beyond that world as it was, step out of that victim role, beyond all conventional ways and found ways to express and act according to what I deep down knew to be the way beyond: in art and in writing, as I did it!.
So, where your opening lines are 'I was born in the sixties but I grew up in the fifties', mine  should be something like: I was born just after the Second World War but I  subconsciously lived already in the next Century!!

My very best, Catharina
